Legionella Remedial Works in Leeds and West Yorkshire

Legionella remedial works

If your risk assessment has flagged actions, remedial works are the next step: the corrective work that brings your water system back to a compliant, low-risk state, with a record you can show an auditor.

Water Hygiene Services is an independent Legionella control company based in Leeds. We carry out remedial works for estates managers, facilities managers and building and property managers across the city, and we can work from any risk assessment, whoever carried it out.

What are Legionella remedial works?

Remedial works are the corrective actions that fix the problems found in a Legionella risk assessment, audit or inspection. They can be small, such as removing a dead leg, or larger, such as replacing a tank or altering pipework. We work to HSG274, supporting ACoP L8, BS EN 806 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

Unlike routine flushing and monitoring, remedial works deal with the root cause, so the same failure does not keep coming back. For the full detail, see our Legionella Remedial Works page.

  • Dead leg and redundant pipework removal
  • Pipework alterations to improve flow and layout
  • Cold water tank repairs, new lids, insect screens and insulation
  • Thermostatic mixing valves: installation, replacement and servicing
  • Valves, stopcocks and double check valves
  • Cleaning, disinfection and sampling after the works, where required

Remedial works in Leeds buildings

Many Leeds buildings have been converted from other uses, and refurbished several times. The drawings do not always match what is above the ceiling, and old pipework is often left in place when a floor is refitted. That is where dead legs and unused outlets turn up.

Work we do in Leeds includes:

  • Removing redundant pipework left behind in converted and refurbished offices
  • Fitting or replacing tank lids and insect screens in roof-top and plant-room tanks
  • Replacing and servicing TMVs in apartment blocks, schools and care homes
  • Altering pipework where a refurbishment has left poor flow or little-used branches
  • Work in occupied buildings, planned around your tenants and staff

How remedial works are carried out

  1. We read your risk assessment and agree which actions are in scope, in priority order.
  2. We survey the work and send you a written quote.
  3. We agree timings with you so the work fits around your building and keeps disruption low.
  4. The work is carried out, with any isolation planned in advance.
  5. Where needed, we clean, disinfect and sample afterwards to confirm the system is ready for use.
  6. You receive a record of what was done and what could not be done, so you can close out the action in your risk assessment.

Questions we are asked in Leeds

Who decides what remedial works are needed?

Your Legionella risk assessment sets the actions. We can review an existing assessment, and agree a prioritised programme with you.

Will the works affect our water supply?

Some tasks need a short isolation. We agree timings with you in advance.

Our building has been refurbished and the drawings are wrong. Is that a problem?

It is common. We survey what is actually installed before pricing the work, so the quote reflects the building as it is.
