Legionella Risk Assessment in Leeds and West Yorkshire

Legionella risk assessment

If you are responsible for a building in Leeds, we are based in the city. Our office is in Meanwood, and we have carried out Legionella risk assessments across Leeds for more than 23 years.

Water Hygiene Services is an independent Legionella control company based in Leeds. We work with estates managers, facilities managers, and building and property managers who need to show that the risk from their hot and cold water systems has been properly assessed and is under control.

As the duty holder, the legal responsibility is yours. Our job is to give you a clear, accurate assessment and an action plan you can follow, so that you can show an auditor, insurer or inspector that the duty is being met.

  • City centre offices, including older buildings that have been refurbished several times and have sections of redundant pipework
  • Apartment blocks and managed residential developments, including riverside and canalside schemes
  • Schools, colleges and university buildings, which are empty for parts of the year and need flushing plans for holidays
  • Care homes, clinics and healthcare premises across the city

  • Industrial units and warehouses on the city's trading estates

What a Legionella risk assessment covers

We survey your hot and cold water systems, find where Legionella could grow, record what we find in a written report, and give you a prioritised action plan. Our assessments follow HSG274, supporting ACoP L8. For the full detail, see our Legionella Risk Assessment page.

Water supply and local conditions in Leeds

Leeds is supplied by Yorkshire Water. The risk usually comes from what happens inside the building, not the mains: long pipe runs, tanks that are larger than the building needs, outlets that are rarely used, and plant that has been added over the years. Our assessments look at all of these.

Many Leeds buildings have been converted from other uses, so the drawings do not always match what is in the ceiling. We survey what is actually there.

Based in Leeds, on your doorstep

Our office is at Chapel House Business Centre, 378 Meanwood Road, Leeds LS7 2JF.

We also cover Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, York and the rest of West and North Yorkshire, and Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

Questions we are asked in Leeds

Is there a local risk assessor I can meet on site first?

Yes. We are based in Leeds, so we can visit to scope the survey and agree what is needed before you commit.

Our building is part of a larger Leeds estate. Can you assess every site?

Yes. We can assess several buildings under one programme, with a consistent report and review schedule across all of them.

Our assessment is out of date. Do we need to start again?

Not always. We can review your existing assessment and tell you whether it is still suitable and sufficient, or what needs updating. Assessments should be reviewed regularly, and whenever the building or its water systems change.
