Legionella Risk Assessment in Calderdale

Legionella risk assessment

From Halifax and Brighouse to Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, we carry out Legionella risk assessments across Calderdale for estates, facilities and property managers.

Water Hygiene Services is an independent Legionella control company based in Leeds, about 16 miles from Halifax. We know the area, and we assess a wide range of buildings, from town-centre offices to hotels in the valleys.

We give you a written report to HSG274 and a plan, ranked by risk, so you can see what to do first.

What a Legionella risk assessment covers

We survey your hot and cold water systems, find where Legionella could grow, record what we find in a written report, and give you a prioritised action plan. Our assessments follow HSG274, supporting ACoP L8. For the full detail, see our Legionella Risk Assessment page.

Seasonal and older buildings

Many Calderdale buildings are older stone buildings with long and awkward pipe runs, and some are only busy in the tourist season. Quiet outlets and old pipework are where bacteria can multiply, so a survey in these buildings concentrates on them.

Yorkshire Water supplies the area. Holiday lets and guest accommodation need a particular approach, because rooms can be empty for days and a guest may then run the shower. We advise on flushing between stays.

Working in the valleys

Some Calderdale sites are in hilly valleys with limited access. We plan the visit with you, and where possible survey several buildings on one trip.

We also cover Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds, so groups of sites across West Yorkshire can be assessed together.

Questions we are asked in Calderdale

We run a small guest house. Do we need a Legionella risk assessment?

If you provide accommodation for guests, you have a duty to assess and control the risk. For a small property the assessment can be short, and we tell you what is proportionate.

Our holiday let is empty between guests. What do we do?

Run all the outlets, including showers, before guests arrive, and keep a record. We can set out a simple routine in the report.

Can you survey several Calderdale buildings on one visit?

Yes. We can group buildings by location and plan them into one visit.
