Outside the city centre, the buildings that need a Legionella risk assessment are spread across Bolton, Stockport, Salford, Trafford, Wigan, Bury and the towns between them. We cover all of Greater Manchester from our Leeds base.
Water Hygiene Services is an independent Legionella control company. We work with estates managers, facilities managers, and building and property managers across Greater Manchester who need an assessment they can rely on, and a clear plan to follow.
This page is for sites in the boroughs around Manchester. If your building is in the city centre itself, see our Manchester page.
Buildings we assess across Greater Manchester
- Industrial estates and business parks, including large multi-unit sites where one landlord is responsible for shared water systems
- Retail parks, shopping centres and leisure complexes
- Care homes and nursing homes in the suburbs and the towns around the city
- Schools, academies and trusts with several sites in one borough
- Council and housing association stock, including sheltered housing and blocks with communal plant
- Hospitals, clinics and GP practices
What a Legionella risk assessment covers
We survey your hot and cold water systems, find where Legionella could grow, record what we find in a written report, and give you a prioritised action plan. Our assessments follow HSG274, supporting ACoP L8. For the full detail, see our Legionella Risk Assessment page.
Why a multi-site approach suits Greater Manchester
Many of our customers here look after more than one building across several boroughs. We assess them as one programme, with one report format, one set of review dates and one action list ranked by risk, so you can see where to start.
United Utilities supplies the area. As elsewhere, most problems start inside the building, so the survey focuses on tanks, hot water plant, little-used outlets and pipework that is no longer needed.
Travel and planning
Most of Greater Manchester is within about an hour of Leeds by the M62, M60 and M66. We plan surveys by area, so that several buildings can be visited on the same day.
For the city centre, see our Manchester page. For the mill towns to the east, see our Oldham page.
Questions we are asked in Greater Manchester
We have buildings in Bolton, Stockport and Salford. Can you assess them all?
Yes. We can assess them together and group the visits by area.
Can you take over our assessments from another company?
Yes. We review what you have and tell you whether it is still suitable and sufficient, and what needs updating, before we do anything else.
Who is responsible for a shared commercial unit with a single water supply?
The duty usually sits with whoever controls the premises. For a multi-let building that is normally the landlord or managing agent, but it depends on the lease. We assess the shared systems and report on them clearly. Check your lease or take advice if the responsibility is unclear.
