If you manage buildings in Hull, you need monitoring that fits your operations, not the other way round. Planned checks, complete records, and no surprises at audit.
Water Hygiene Services is an independent Legionella control company based in Leeds, about 60 miles from Hull. We run planned monitoring for estates managers, facilities managers and building and property managers across Hull and Humberside, to HSG274.

What is Legionella monitoring, and what does it include?
Legionella monitoring is the routine checking and recording of your hot and cold water systems to show that the control measures in your risk assessment are working. HSG274 sets out the checks and how often they are usually done, supporting ACoP L8.
You remain the duty holder. We carry out the checks and keep the logbook complete, so you can show an auditor, insurer or inspector that the duty is being met. For the full detail, see our Legionella Monitoring page.
- Hot water stored at 60 degrees or above
- Hot water at outlets at 50 degrees or above within one minute (55 degrees or above in healthcare premises)
- Cold water below 20 degrees within two minutes of running
- Little-used outlets flushed, usually weekly
- Shower heads cleaned and descaled, usually quarterly
- Tanks and calorifiers inspected, usually annually
- Thermostatic mixing valves checked at least annually
Monitoring in Hull and Humberside
Hull is supplied by Yorkshire Water. Many sites in the area are industrial, run shifts or have parts that are rarely used, and it is those rarely used outlets and spare capacity in tanks that cause the trouble. We plan the checks around how your site really works.
Buildings we monitor in Hull and Humberside include:
- Food and drink production and processing sites
- Port, logistics and warehouse sites around the Humber
- Hospitals, clinics, care homes and supported living
- University and college buildings and student accommodation
- Hotels, pubs and leisure venues in the city and on the coast
- Rented houses and houses in multiple occupation, run by landlords and managing agents
How a monitoring programme works
- We review your risk assessment and written scheme and agree what is checked, where and how often.
- We agree a visit schedule with your site team and arrange access.
- Temperatures and flushing are checked and recorded at the outlets in your scheme.
- Tanks, calorifiers and other plant are inspected as the programme requires.
- Anything out of range is reported to you with a recommended action.
- The logbook is updated, so your records are complete and ready for inspection.

Questions we are asked in Hull
Our site runs shifts. Can monitoring fit around that?
Yes. We agree the visit pattern with your site team and plan the checks around production and access.
We are a landlord with several rented properties. Do I need monitoring?
The duty to control Legionella applies to rented homes too. For simple domestic-type systems the programme can be short, and we tell you what is proportionate for each property.
Can you cover sites across Humberside as well as Hull?
Yes. We cover the wider Humberside area, and can group sites into one programme with consistent records.
